We have changed our ‘doing business as’ name to Lackawaxen EMS because Lackawaxen Township Volunteer Ambulance Service Inc. doesn’t really fit us anymore. We had had paid crews on duty from 6am to 6pm for the last several years; in January 2009 we began 24/7 paid coverage. The officers and many members continue to volunteer their time for administrative tasks. Those tasks became very time-consuming as our service has grown and we hired an administrative assistant last year who helps us tremendously.
Another big change this year is that we formed a Board of Directors: our four officers, plus four residents who live in communities in the township, and four residents from the township NOT in communities. It’s terrific having the help making decisions about the future of our organization.
When we purchased a new ambulance last year, we decided to keep our oldest one so that we’d have three, enabling us to continue our excellent response numbers even when an ambulance is out of service. We’ve had a lot of repair & maintenance issues on all three ambulances this year.
Nine members of our squad attended the Eastern PA EMS Conference in October at the Pocono Manor Inn. We attended classes for three days, getting the ConEd credits that we need to re-certify, and we enjoyed two evenings of socializing and fun. It’s great getting together with EMS people from other organizations and learning how they do things and how we might make changes to help us in Lackawaxen Twp. And did I say we had fun?
