May 20, 2011
On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank the community for their support in passing this referendum. With the additional funding we will now be able to maintain our current level of service to the community for hopefully another 6 to 8 years. Without the support of our community and our dedicated members, Lackawaxen EMS would not be where it is today!
Sincerely,
AJ Manzione

Ambulance tax increase OK’d
Lackawaxen Twp. — Voters in Lackawaxen Township, Tuesday, agreed to have their taxes raised to support their ambulance services. The referendum passed, with 287 “YES” votes and 223 “NO” votes. Broken down by precinct, in Lackawaxen-1, there were 142 “YES” and 103 “NO” and in Lackawaxen-2, 145 “YES” and 120 “NO”. Lackawaxen Volunteer Ambulance Corps asked the Board of Supervisors for a referendum asking an additional one mil increase. Their last request for a tax increase was eight years ago. The added milage will bring the total for ambulance services, from 1.5 mils to 2.5 mils. The ambulance service maintains a station in Bohemia, Route 590, with an on duty crew, and a business office in Greeley.

Lackawaxen EMS Millage
Lackawaxen residents can rest easy knowing their ambulance service will be fully staffed through next year. A yes vote after last night’s primary election allowed a millage increase for the Lackawaxen EMS. This means the ambulance service will have continued funding after 2012. Just 39 votes stood between the one mill tax increase. EMS crews say if it didn't pass they would have to cut workers hours. The millage increase will bring the EMS service around an additional 75 thousand dollars every year which they will use mostly for payroll.
