Lackawaxen EMS was built by the community, for the community.
In the early 1950s, residents of Lackawaxen came together after recognizing a serious need when medical emergencies happened, help was too far away. Rather than accept that risk, a small group of concerned neighbors took action. Their goal was simple but powerful: make sure help would always be close when it mattered most.
With the support of local leaders and the dedication of community members, that idea became reality. In 1956, Lackawaxen EMS officially began providing emergency medical services to the township through dedicated volunteers. From the very beginning, the mission was clear deliver high-quality care to every patient, regardless of circumstance or ability to pay.
Over the years, Lackawaxen EMS has grown alongside the community it serves. Challenges were met with determination, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment from volunteers, staff, and residents alike. Today, we are proud to be a trusted presence in the lives of our neighbors, offering not only emergency medical care, but also peace of mind.
Serving Our Neighbors
Lackawaxen EMS currently serves approximately 81 square miles and an estimated population of 10,000 residents, not including mutual aid responses outside of the township. We operate out of two stations and maintain three ambulances and a quick response vehicle to ensure timely care throughout the community.
Our call volume has reached an all-time high as of 2025 and continues to grow. No matter the weather, time, or circumstances, our crews are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year ready to answer the call.
Growing With Our Community
As the needs of our community evolve, so do we. Lackawaxen EMS has recently upgraded to an advanced level of care, allowing qualified providers to deliver enhanced medical services, including:
Intravenous fluid replacement
Advanced airway management and monitoring
Pain management
Administration of select intravenous medications
These advancements ensure our patients receive the highest level of care as close to home as possible.
